Non-English primary language is associated with higher odds of emergency versus elective surgery for diverticulitis

Patients with a non-English primary language (a form of language discordance / limited English proficiency) have higher odds of undergoing emergency rather than elective surgery for diverticulitis than patients with an English primary language, even after adjustment for demographic, comorbidity, insurance, and socioeconomic factors — consistent with reduced access to timely elective surgical care.
