The reduced LEP readmission rate during the intervention translated into substantial estimated hospital expenditure savings. Holding the preintervention LEP readmission rate (17.8%) constant rather than the observed 13.4% implied 119 additional readmissions would have occurred; at a median LEP hospital-stay cost of $11,086, those readmissions projected to $1,319,234. After subtracting the $28,001 cost of interpreted calls (28,284 minutes at $0.99/min, with the phones provided free by the vendor), the estimated net 8-month savings were $1,291,233, or roughly $161,404 in monthly hospital expenditure savings.
